The HTC One may have been the crowning jewel in 2013, but it still didn’t stop the Taiwanese company from taking hits in Q3 and Q4 on profits, leading to questions of the CEO quitting and the possibility of an acquisition.
Neither have come true so far and the HTC One successor, reportedly carrying the same name, may be the light at the end of the tunnel. New reports fromBloomberg detail the HTC One coming with a larger screen and better camera.
The report was not able to pinpoint the exact size of the HTC One display, it will come larger than the predecessor but smaller than the HTC One Max; our guess is 5.2-inch, this seems to be the size most next generation smartphones are hitting.
On the design front, little has changed according to the report. We did see a compelling leak of a blue HTC One, looking like it could be the successor. The only difference was the thinness of the smartphone, looking a lot less beefy.
This means we will see the premium aluminium build on the new HTC One. This was one of the biggest reasons HTC managed to grab the phone of 2013 for the longest time, simply because the married a compelling OS with a gorgeous design.
Alongside the larger screen will be a better camera, HTC will add an improved version of the Ultrapixel sensor. The previous Ultrapixel camera had average success when taking pictures, in low-light it did well but otherwise it was a little shoddy.
We believe HTC will improve the depth of field and possibly add OIS to the Ultrapixel sensor, as well as bumping up the megapixels to eight, instead of four currently on the HTC One camera.
The HTC One is likely to come with the latest version of Android KitKat 4.4, alongside Sense 6.0. We should see it at a HTC event in March, a little after Mobile World Congress.
