After rumors and a report from DigiTimes based on word from upstream supply sources, Sony Mobile has confirmed that they are in talks with Microsoft to adopt Windows Phone. Seeing that Microsoft's platform is growing at a very favorable pace, leaving behind the iPhone in several markets, Windows Phone might be what Sony needs to achieve their sales targets for 2014.
"We are continuing our discussions with other partners, including Microsoft, as part of our partnership with this company on the broader Sony spectrum. [Working with Microsoft] is an interesting proposition for us in the PC environment, and we continue our engagement with them. We are exploring this as part of our discussion in mobile space too," said Perron.
Another report suggested that Sony will outsource production of their WP devices to ODMs (such as Foxconn). However, nothing can be said with certainty, not yet. If this deal goes through, we might see the very first Sony branded WP devices in 2H 2014.
